Carissa Bleker is a computational biologist working at the intersection of plant systems biology and knowledge representation. Her research focuses on decoding the molecular networks that govern plant stress responses, with the aim of identifying targets for improving crop resilience and yield under adverse conditions.

She leads the development of the Stress Knowledge Map (SKM), a knowledge graph resource for molecular interactions and stress signalling in plants, and has developed computational tools for translational genomics, Boolean network modelling, and multi-omics data integration.

Carissa is co-lead of the ELIXIR Systems Biology Community and an active contributor to the ELIXIR Plant Sciences Community, working to improve the FAIRness and interoperability of plant science and systems biology resources. She holds a PhD in Data Science and Engineering from the University of Tennessee and has been a researcher at NIB since 2020.
