Dr. Janez Posedi, the Director General of The administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Food Safety, Veterinary Sector and Plant Protection (UVHVVR), DVM and MSc. Katarina Groznik, Head of Sector for Plant Health and Plant Reproductive Material Division visited the National Institute of Biology (NIB) on Friday, the 11th of December 2015 at the invitation of the Director, dr. Tamara Lah Turnšek. UVHVVR covers plant health and plant reproductive material, food and feed products, plant protection products, animal health and welfare, food safety, veterinary and plant health inspection, as both the administration and monitoring. The cooperation of the National Institute of Biology with the UVHVVR is successful for many years. NIB has a public mandate to carry out the tasks of plant health protection and is a national reference laboratory for detection of genetically modified organisms (GMO), and official laboratory for the testing of GMOs in food, feed, seeds and plants. In addition to testing NIB provides scientific advice and technical support and training to the authorities. During the visit, guests also visited the laboratories of the Department of Biotechnology and Systems Biology, which is the holder of the mentioned activities.
