STOPP - "Strategies for Preventing and Reducing Pollution from Plastic Packaging in Food Systems" is a European project funded by the EC, involving 12 partners from 6 countries, led by VTT - the Technical Research Centre of Finland. STOPP addresses the principle of "5 -R": Refuse, Reduce, Redesign, Reuse, and Recycle. The key goal of the STOPP project is to reduce the impact of plastic waste from food packaging on the environment, in accordance with the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive. In line with circular economy concepts, STOPP plans to develop strategies that will not only affect the production and processing of plastics but also increase awareness through a network of various stakeholders. The role of researchers from NIB is to deepen the understanding of the impact of plastic packaging waste on marine and terrestrial ecosystems and organisms.
