In the video above, you can watch a live stream of a fan mussel (Pinna nobilis), the only surviving individual among several juveniles we collected using larval collectors as part of the Life Pinna and TRECap projects. Due to mass mortality events caused by pathogens, this once common species has become extremely rare in our sea. The fan mussel is now strictly protected. To safeguard the young mussel, we surrounded it with a protective mesh that shields it from predators and physical damage. We monitor its condition regularly, track its growth, and clean the mesh to ensure it remains functional.
