Department: Department of Biotechnology and Systems Biology

Qualifications

2005-

PhD student of Biomedicine, Medical Faculty, Ljubljana University, Slovenia
Supervisor: prof. dr. Jana Žel

2004
Graduated in Microbiology, at the Biotechnical Faculty, Ljubljana University, Slovenia; with the graduation thesis on the isolation and analysis of antifungal protein from flax seeds.

Research Interests

  • My early research work was focused on detection of genetically modified organisms (GMO) in food and feed, especially on real-time PCR and different detection chemistries. I was involved in the Co-Extra EU research programme on co-existence and traceability.

article in BMC Biotechnology: Comparison of different real-time PCR chemistries and their suitability for detection and quantification of genetically modified organisms.

  • My present work (2008 -) includes different genes of fungal origin, which might help plants to increase drought or insect resistance. Plants are transformed via Agrobacterium mediated plant transformation - a floral dip method on Arabidopsis thaliana and explants transformation on potato.

  • During a half-a-year work at Plant System Biology, VIB in Belgium (2009) I started to be involved in molecular farming. My project was focused on down-stream processes of recombinant proteins production in Arabidopsis seeds. With my mentor we are country representatives in COST Molecular Farming.
