In the organization of National Institute of Biology and Food Standards Agency (FSA), Great Britain 12th of December, GMOval open Meeting was organized in FSA in London. The meeting was dedicated to presentation of final achievements of the project entitled Validation of qualitative GMO methods (GMOval) and further considerations on detection of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). In GMOval project, headed by dr. Jana Žel (NIB) (before Dany Morisset, NIB) and financed by FSA, new methods contributing to more reliable analyses of GMOs, especially during screening phase, were validated. The validated methods will be proposed as international standards (ISO). In interlaboratory comparisons reference materials used for GMO analyses were tested by two molecular approaches, PCR in real time and digital PCR. Performance acceptance criteria for validation of qualitative methods using PCR in real time were also defined. The meeting brought together respected guests, dr. Joachim Kreysa, head of European reference laboratory for GMO detection, JRC-IHCP, also head of European network of GMO laboratories, dr. Lutz Grohmann, conveyer of WG for Genetically modified foodstuffs in European Committee for Standardization (CEN), dr. Ray Shillito head of Working group for qualitative methods in International Organization for Standardization (ISO), project partners from Belgium (CRA-W, WIV-ISP), Germany (LGL), Italy (JRC-IHCP), Great Britain (FERA) and France (ANSES) representatives of FSA and Laboratories from Great Britain.
