NODC

Welcome to the National Oceanographic Data Centre (NODC)

Slovenian reference with the International Oceanographic Data Exchange (IODE) of UNESCO's Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC)

The National Institute of Biology (NIB) was officially recognised as a National Oceanographic Data Centre (NODC) by the International Oceanographic Commission (IOC) in 2004.

The global network of more than 100 National Oceanographic Data Centres (NODCs), Associated Data Units (ADUs) and Associated Information Units (AIUs) is coordinated by the IODE Programme of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, which was established in 1961.

The NODC NIB MBP manages and makes available, together with other centres, millions of ocean observations that contribute to ocean data products and services developed and used by other IOC programmes.

The dataset managed by the NODC consists of several datasets:

1. 1977-2024 Time series of measurements:

     - temperature, Salinity, Dissolved Oxygen in seawater,

     - pH, Alkalinity,

     - NO2, NO3, NH4, PO4, Ptot, Ntot.,SiO4

     - pollutants

total ~300 000 measurements in seawater, sediment and organisms

2. 1991-2023 CTD profiles (4500)

3. 2002-2023 measurements on the VIDA oceanographic buoy::

     a. air measurements: air T, air humidity, wind direction and speed, PAR

     b. measurements in water:  T and S of seawater, O2 concentration,

     c. direction and strength of currents at 20 depths,

     d. wave direction, height and period

4. 2015-2023 surface current and wave measurements with HF radars

5. 1969-2023 biological data.
